Because Cars is a racing game based on the very successful movie that bears the same name, it has to allow the player to explore the world of Radiator Springs and surrounding areas in a scenario that is as open world as possible, with missions tied together by a loose storyline. As in the movie, the racing guru Lightning McQueen, ready to compete in the prestigious Piston Cup, the in game and in movie the equivalent of NASCAR, arrives in the town of Radiator Springs, where he has to deal with the locals while trying to make it to the racing event.
There are more than 20 races that you can try out and five Piston Cup Races and additional mini-games which can be unlocked. Apart from the story mode, the player can choose to compete in Head to Head races or the Arcade mode to take on multiple opponents.
The game proved to be a hit, mainly with the younger audience that also took interest in the movie.
GAMEPLAY HINTS
Avoid getting lost
If you ever get lost in the desert, follow Mater or any other car without bumping into them. They will take you back to Radiator Springs.
Lightning bolt
The first stripe (near the fire house) of the new road is actually a lightning bolt.
GLITCHES
Mac goes through house
Go to Flo's Cafe (the gas station) and look for Mac (Lightning's semi). Push him at the side tire until he starts to move. After he moves, keep pushing him until you have pushed him all the way across the street to Radiator Spring's Curios (the old store). Then, push him most of the way through the house. Go to the back and you will see his head on the other side. You can sometimes see him through the window on the side.
