Swedish carrier Telenor and Google have just announced that starting today, the operator’s customers will be able to pay for apps and games purchased on Google Play directly from their Android devices.

In addition, Telenor customers who own Android devices will also be able to purchase apps and games and charge it to the operator bill. Customers in other Telenor operations will be offered the same advantages in the near future.

Telenor also confirmed the new carrier billing solution would be rolled out in waves in Sweden, with all customers receiving it by the end of the week.

“This launch is the consequence of Google and Telenor´s strategic partnership around the Android ecosystem, which is driven by the vision to add value for the customers. There are more than 675,000 apps and game available on Google Play, and Telenor’s app panel will carefully select a maximum of 50 apps which they will recommend exclusively for their Android users,” said Rolv-Erik Spilling, SVP and deputy head of digital services in Telenor.

The operator’s customers in Norway and Denmark will be offered the new functions of the services soon after the rollout in Sweden is successfully completed. There’s more to it, as additional countries will follow shortly, including Hungary, Malaysia and Thailand.

Keep in mind that that you don’t have to subscribe to register to any service, as carrier-billing will be available as soon as you enter Google Play on your Android device and select the Telenor tile on the front page.

“bSafe is the world’s leading mobile safety application. Partnering up with Telenor to launch bSafe is very important to us. Telenor is a great company founded on the same values as us keeping family and safety of high importance, and to make sure Telenor’s customers get the best,” concluded Silje Vallestad, founder and CEO.
