NBC took a giant risk with the 3-hour live special “Sound of Music Live” with Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer as leads and, at least as far as ratings are concerned, it paid off. As for the haters, well, they just “need Jesus.”

To put it simply, almost 18.4 million people tuned in to see the show, and many of them also live-tweeted it and trashed it because it wasn’t up to expectations. One of these people was Kym Karath, who starred in the original film (not the Broadway play on which the NBC special was based), who said she thought Carrie was the wrong choice for the role of Maria von Trapp.

It’s not that Carrie’s singing was ever brought into question: many viewers thought her acting was lacking completely. In other words, she has a beautiful voice and did justice to the part, but she couldn’t act to save her life.

To those who voiced such ideas or who attacked her for agreeing to do the special, Carrie has just one thing to say: “Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight...1 Peter 2:1-25.”

The fragment she’s referring to urges man to “rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.”

Carrie doesn’t name any names but it’s clear that criticism about her performance is getting to her. If you think about it, she has every reason to be this upset because some of the people who commented about the special online were truly creative when it came to offenses and saying mean things, but provided zero constructive criticism.

Not the same can be said about Kym, even though she said she was “mystified & disappointed” in the show. After Carrie’s fans attacked her on Twitter for speaking up her mind, she saw herself cornered into further explaining her words.

“Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong,” she wrote. “To be clear I love Carrie Underwood. Just not as Maria. She was brave to take it on. And this doesn't lessen my respect for her talent,” Kym added.
