One more place where mobile phones are not wanted

Taking work on holiday through endless phone calls is not a new thing. It's annoying for the handset's owner, but also for those sitting around him and having to hear the constant ringing and long talks. A Caribbean beach looks to get rid of this type of vacation by banning any calls those who spend time within the area might receive.

Palm Islands is a popular holiday destination in the Grenadines that will be subject to a change which will surely make it even more popular than ever before. Mobile phone use will be banned from now on for everybody spending time on the island. This means that handsets, PDAs and laptop computers are prohibited within half a mile of Casarina Beach.

The decision is meant to protect tourists from the abusive use of such devices by others and make this a truly quiet and peaceful island, as it is meant to be. There is no room for perfect serenity and mobile phone rings in the same place, which makes it clear that one should leave. Of course it wasn't going to be the peace and quiet, but the intrusive devices.

"There is nothing worse than lying back in your double hammock, sipping on your strawberry daiquiri and hearing the Motorola jingle in the background", considers Rob Barrett, CEO of Elite Resort Islands. Moreover, "We would love to encourage guests to adopt Caribbean time during their stay with us, switch off their mobiles and enjoy the sound of the lapping waves", he also said. That is what vacations should be about and not handling problems from miles away through the handset.

Mobile phone use is already prohibited in several social city areas, including movie theaters and restaurants. Exotic islands, such as the Caribbean ones are also places where silence is mandatory for some good quality relaxation time. There's no room in this picture for a mobile phone ringing to break the holiday's charm.
