SafeNet and Cardinal Information Systems announced they have developed a complete solution for secure mobile TV. The combination of Cardinal's Playout broadcasting system and SafeNet's DRM Fusion Toolkit4TV will enable users to access on-demand broadcast content on mobile devices while securing rights and revenue for the content owners.

"This partnership is a compelling proposition for operators and broadcasters. The addition of robust protection from SafeNet to our mobile TV server completes our offering," said Joakim Heino, marketing director, Cardinal. "We are really proud to be first to market with this solution."

SafeNet and Cardinal's complete solution offers encapsulation and broadcasting, electronic service guides, purchasing, and protection to avoid the cost and interoperability concerns associated with integration of offerings from multiple parties. The solution is based on open standards and is fully compatible with the DVB-18Crypt standard for mobile TV protection, thus avoiding vendor lock-in associated with proprietary solutions and partial implementation of standards. The mobile TV solution is designed to support multiple standards within a single platform so that operators do not need to worry about choosing the right standard.

"Tight integration of system capabilities is essential to meet the demanding service level agreements associated with a live services such as mobile TV," said Simon Blake-Wilson, managing director of DRM, SafeNet. "Together, Cardinal and SafeNet are able to offer the complete range of capabilities in a single, unified solution to address this challenge."

To further promote interoperability, Cardinal and SafeNet also offer the solution packaged as a test server, so that secure mobile TV clients can ensure standards compliance and interoperability. A live demonstration of the solution will be performed at the 3GSM World Congress on February 12-15 in Barcelona, Spain.
