Video game developer Carbine Studios has announced that the mysterious MMO project it has been teasing for a few weeks is called Wildstar and will try to mix science fiction and fantasy while also offering a new, so called “layered”, approach to quests.

The game will be published by NCsoft exclusively on the PC and the MMO currently has no launch date.

Wildstar is created by a number of developers who have left Blizzard after the initial launch of World of Warcraft and the aesthetics of the game have a resemblance to the biggest MMO on the market but with everything rendered in a very cartoon like manner.

Players will arrive on the planet of Nexus and will need to choose a race and a class in order to explore the world and see why the most powerful race in the galaxy has suddenly disappeared.

The developers at Carbine are saying that the main difference between Wildstar and any other MMO on the market will be the layers that allow a varied approach to the quests and the progression.

Even the simplest of quests involve a number of modifiers that can create a challenge for a hardcore player and can be ignored by newcomers, creating very different experiences.

Those who have experience with the MMO genre will be able to get through the game faster and level up at a greater pace, seeing more of the game at a time, while the less hardcore will spend more time doing the same quests because they cannot tackle all the objectives at the same time.

The other innovation for Wildstar is the paths that players choose when they create their characters, getting access to a set of unique skills and game moments, like the scanning of items for the scientist, the ability to get to see more of the game world for the explorer or Horde battle moments for the warrior.
