A car crash left one car severed in half in Des Moines, Iowa, but the identity of the person behind the wheel remains a big mystery.

Local police investigated the wreck at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday. The car was lying on the side of the road at 1900 block of Hartford Avenue.

According to KCCI, the owner has been notified, but she claims that she was not driving the car. Some people living in her house could have been driving it, but she is not giving up any names.

However, she mentions that the doors are always unlocked and anyone could have taken it for a ride. The police have found no blood inside and, even if the car was totaled, the driver could have survived. The vehicle was crashed into an electricity pole.

"The front doors, I was told, actually could be opened and closed without a problem. Given that information it's not totally unlikely someone could have walked away from that accident," police spokesman Jason Halifax explains.
