An SUV crashed into a daycare facility in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, April 30, injuring three of the children inside.

The kids have not incurred life-threatening injuries, Children's Mercy Hospital spokeswoman Jessica Salazar tells USA TODAY.

"We are treating three children with mild to moderate injuries, none that appear life threatening," Salazar clarifies.

KSHB reports that the vehicle was being driven by an 80-year-old man who was also injured.

The accident took place at 1 p.m. at the Christian Academy while the children were on their nap time. Two 2-year-olds and a 5-year-old were wounded, according to one of the attendants.

One of the children suffered a broken hip as he woke up with a "car and big wheels" on top of him. The other two kids were released from the hospital by 7 p.m. the next day.

"When I ran to the daycare, police told me to sit down. I saw my son's name on a piece of paper," Shayla Davis, the mother of one of the children, describes.

The Range Rover SUV drove up to the building on 3611 E. 27th between Monroe and Askew and smashed into a Cadillac stationed in front of it. The second vehicle was rammed into the daycare, breaking through the wall.

"I started helping like trying to kick down the doors to get all the kids out. [...] It was devastating to hear all the kids crying and it made you want to do whatever you could do to make everything better," explains Tony Bennett, the grandson of the Cadillac owner.

About 40 children were inside the facility when the crash occurred. The driver of the Range Rover has been hospitalized, but there is no information about the status of his injuries.

"The kids are the first priority," an attendant at the daycare said. The parents were called in at 27th and Monroe after the crash, in order for staff to inform them about their children's condition.
