Renowned mobile games developer Gameloft S.A. has released two new games for owners of iPod nano (video), iPod classic, and fifth-generation iPod. Just so every taste is satisfied this week, iTunes now lists Naval Battle: Mission Commander and Chess & Backgammon Classics as downloadables for 5 bucks a piece.

In Naval Battle: Mission Commander, players must
use their tactical skills to sink the enemy fleet and become a true admiral. This all-new naval battle is of course the mobile adaptation of the popular board game, an entirely revamped one at that. There are new rules, 8 special attacks, 3 new vessels while campaign mode sports a total of 18 missions! Graphics are rich, animations look great also, while the sound environment is said to bring the battle to life. Not one Call of Duty iteration was able to reproduce that for me, so I'm guessing the Naval Battle: Mission Commander won't either. But the game does look exciting, especially for an iPod version.

Chess & Backgammon Classics, however, is a game for those who like to take their time and think non-violently about the opponent's/CPU's next move. The two-in-one game package includes both classic games (of course), while the specially designed interface allows users to play both games on either a 2-D or 3-D rendition of the gaming board. Additional themed skins provide further playing surface customization and you can choose from three play modes - Instant Play, Quiz and Classic Games - while the games also feature full help and tutorial systems, in addition to move coaching.

So remember, Naval Battle: Mission Commander and Chess & Backgammon Classics, Gameloft's latest games for the iPod nano (video), iPod classic and fifth-gen iPod, are currently available for download via Apple's iTunes Store, and sell for $5 a piece.

Hit Gameloft's official website for more information on Naval Battle, Chess & Backgammon, or other exciting mobile/portable games.
