Capcom has posted worse than expected financial results for the past year, prompting some gamers to believe that the company has exhausted its innovation capabilities, but a producer says that the video game publisher can continue to deliver good content to players.

Mike Jones, who worked on the recently launched Dead Rising 3, tells the Official Xbox Magazine that, “Capcom is in a growth and adjustment period. The game’s changed, new consoles are coming out… Everything’s not out there in the open, right? There are portfolio discussions about next gen and mobile and digital and all this kind of stuff.”

He says he has been part of discussions with the leaders of the company that focused on the most important properties of the company and how they can be used in the future.

A string of titles including Resident Evil 6, Lost Planet 3 and DmC: Devil May Cry have failed to impress critics in 2013 and have not generated the sales required for Capcom to stay in the black.

Jones adds, “If you look at their track record over the past year or two, there have been some successes in there, some failures in there, and a lot of lessons to be learned, people are listening and they’re learning, and I think you’ll see a lot of big stuff over the next couple of years.”

Dead Rising 3 is an Xbox One launch exclusive that can now be bought and played in 13 core territories.

The game has been well received because it manages to keep the irreverent tone of the franchise while cramming more zombies than ever on the screen for the player to take out using a wide array of weapons.

The company is at the moment working on Deep Down for next-gen consoles, a title that should be launched in 2014.
