After Capcom confirmed that extra characters were included on the Street Fighter x Tekken disk but that they would only be unlocked at a later date, some fans took it upon themselves to hack the game in order to access them, which has both impressed and disappointed the team that created the fighting game.

Tomoaki Ayano, who is a producer working on Street Fighter x Tekken at Capcom, has told Gamespot that, “Personally, I was really surprised when I heard the news that the characters had been hacked, basically. So I was pretty disappointed by that. I was really surprised at how skillful the hackers were, basically.”

He added, “But I was really kind of disappointed that it created this kind of environment where a bunch of players were playing the characters but a bunch were unable to play with them.”

12 characters, half drawn from the Street Fighter universe and half linked to Tekken, are included on the game disk.

They will be sold for 1,600 Microsoft Points (the equivalent of 20 dollars or Euro) when the PlayStation Vita version of Street Fighter x Tekken gets launched in the fall.

Those who play on the new Sony handheld will get access to them for free, as an incentive to try out this version of the Capcom title.

Street Fighter x Tekken was launched on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 during March and for some fans the wait to autumn was just too long, which led to hacking in order to access the new characters.

A PC version of the game will be released during May and it is likely that fans will also quickly unlock the new characters on this platform.

Despite protests from the fan base, Capcom has defended the practice of including significant downloadable content on the game disk, asking gamers to pay in order to unlock it at later date.
