Capcom is ready to explore the history of the Street Fighter series and revive some of the titles it finds there for launch, in a remade form, on the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Arcade. The company has confirmed the Comic Con news that it will be bringing Street Fighter III: Third Strike back to life, although it has not specified when the title might be launched. The original fighting game appeared in 1999 in arcades.

Third Strike is the pinnacle of development for the Street Fighter III series. The original game arrived in 1997 and some changes were made in 2nd Impact, also launched in 1997. The third game introduced more characters, more moves and complicated the gameplay mechanics. Ports of Street Fighter III: Third Strike were released for the original Xbox, the PlayStation 2 and the Dreamcast. It's not clear whether the remake will keep the same gameplay mechanics of the original or whether Capcom will update them to more modern standards.

Capcom began the trend of remaking older fighting titles in 2008 when Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix arrived on the XBLA and on the PSN with a price tag of 15 dollars. The game, probably fueled by nostalgia and the recent revival of the genre, went on to top sell more than 250,000 units in the first three weeks, making it a big hit when it comes to downloadable titles.

Capcom is also working on a new Street Fighter X Tekken video game, which is set to arrive in boxed form on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The twist is that two titles will actually be created, one made by Capcom using the mechanics of Super Street Fighter IV, and one by Namco, using the mechanics of their most recent Tekken release, allowing fans to use their favorite characters with two different rule sets.
