Video game publisher Capcom has offered some more information on the pawn system that will be at the hearth of the upcoming Dragon's Dogma, the action oriented, open world based role playing game that will be launched during 2012.

The pawns are three companions controlled by the Artificial Intelligence of Dragon's Dogma that work with the player and can both assist him in battle and play a support role, depending on the roles that the gamer defines for them.

The pawns seemed like simple henchmen but the developers at Capcom are saying that they are actually a crucial part of the online side of the game and a way for player's to cooperate without actually entering each others games.

The player will be able to actually control the creation of just one of the pawns in Dragon's Dogma, customizing both his looks and his abilities in battle.

The other two can only be obtained by visiting a place called the Rift, where a bigger numbers of very different pawns will be available, providing gamers with a pool that allows them to create a balanced party.

They are actually the creations of other gamers who are waiting to get recruited and when they enter a game they bring currency and equipment with them, depending on the adventures that they have gone through with their creators.

But, more importantly, the developers at Capcom say that pawns are able to carry over memories of their experiences, meaning that they might talk about the creatures the player battles and offer tips on how to take them out or they might show the player secret areas of the game world.

It seems that Dragon's Dogma does not intend to have any traditional multiplayer modes other than infiltrating pawns.

The plot of Dragon's Dogma is based around a main characters who needs to hunt down the dragon who has taken his heart.
