It looks like quite a few fixes need to land soon for users

A major OTA update was released for Ubuntu Touch a couple of weeks ago, and it looked like it would be the last one for this branch, but it's quite possible that we'll get another before the switch to the Vivid base.

Ubuntu Touch users were very happy to receive an important OTA update just a couple of weeks ago, and Canonical said that it would probably be the last before the system switches to a new base, Ubuntu 15.04. From the looks of it, only a few more fixes remained, but their number has increased in the past few days, and the developers are now considering the launch of a new OTA update.

It's also worth pointing out that Canonical has recently introduced phased updates for Ubuntu Touch. This means that the OTA updates will be distributed during a period of 24 hours, making it much safer to roll back or to stop them if anything goes wrong.

The switch to Ubuntu 15.04 base is something normal

Every six months a new Ubuntu system is released, so the devs need to change the base for Ubuntu Touch as well. This has happened already a few times, so it's not something new. Also, users shouldn't expect some big changes. In fact, the switch will likely be smooth, and it will be hard to tell that something has actually changed.

"As for the hotfix OTA that's planned for next week, we will probably be waiting for 2 additional fixes there. It seems that the 'hotfix release' starts changing more into a full-fledged update, which is a bit sad as we didn't want to have one like that built from ubuntu-rtm/14.09 again. On the other hand I suppose it's not that bad, as we should be happy that there are so many fixes ready for release," wrote Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak on the official mailing list.

Ubuntu 15.04 was released on April 23, but Ubuntu for phones is using a different development cycle than the desktop edition.
