Ubuntu for phones and tablets has hit a small roadblock and it's been quite a while since the last stable and promotable images. It's hard work, but it seems that we might get a new stable version with Android 4.4.

Getting a new Ubuntu for phones and tablets stable image promoted is proving to be quite a challenge, mostly because of the problems encountered with the support for Android 4.4.

“Some desktop only updates are still flowing in through CI Train, however, we are still blocked by not being able to get one image promotable. Otherwise, two images were produced: #208 contained the second part of the sdk fix for the alarm, and #209 contains a libhybris change to protect bionic properties call,” said Canonical's Didier Roche.

The developers are working on a number of issues with Ubuntu for phones, which include some Unity8 regressions, a QMLScene crash, and problems with the terminal app, the Gallery, the Camera, the Alarm, and a few others.

As you can see, the Ubuntu development team has its work cut out for it, but it should be able to promote a new stable image soon.

Ubuntu developers have a series of automated and manual tests in place that allow them to scan for problems before releasing a buggy image to the public. It makes the release process a lot faster, which is actually good news for the end user.
