Canonical is starting 2013 with a bang and what better way to do it if not by using a teaser and countdown timer on the official website.

We can only speculate on what Canonical has in mind for its users, on January 2. Most likely, it will have something to do with tablets of mobile phones, especially if we take into account the message: "So close, you can almost touch it."

It’s not a coincidence that one of the last statements made by Mark Shuttleworth in 2012 was all about a unified operating system that could run on all the platforms, but that’s a long way off.

In any case, Canonical is doing the right thing by promoting one of its products in this manner and raising awareness.

The next version on Ubuntu, 13.04, will be available in April and it’s set to be a step closer to Mark Shuttleworth’s dream of having just one operating system.

We’ll keep you apprised about Canonical’s plans to take over the world.
