Ubuntu 14.04 LTS has received its new name, Trusty Tahr, just a few days ago, and Canonical has already opened the distribution for development.

Not even a week has passed since the launch of Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander), and Canonical has started the development of the new Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr).

“Trusty is now open for development, with syncs from unstable currently running. The development version starts with a new port and with minor updates to the toolchain and some transitions,” stated Canonical's Matthias Klose.

For Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Canonical has updated GCC 4.8 to 4.8.2, Perl has been updated from 5.14 to 5.18, Berkeley DB has been updated from 5.1 to 5.3, and boost has been updated from 1.53 to 1.54.

Canonical also said that Trusty was the first development version that saw the AArch64 (arm64) port from the start of the cycle.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is expected to arrive on April 17, 2014.
