Daily builds for the new Ubuntu should be ready soon

Just a day after the launch of Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn), the developers from Canonical have started work on the next iteration, Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet).

The Ubuntu devs are not wasting any time and they have already started to build the next version of the distribution, although it will be a while until an ISO imagine is made available. Even then, it will most likely be something very similar to Ubuntu 14.10, which was released only yesterday, October 23.

This is actually a normal day at the office for Canonical. Traditionally, the development for the next Ubuntu version starts the very next day, so it's not something special. Still, it's interesting to see how Canonical is working on its distro and how it is able to launch an operating system precisely every six months.

Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) is taking shape

The next versions of the Ubuntu distro, including the 15.04 variant, will be very interesting because Canonical is working to implement a new Unity desktop and the Mir display manager. It will take them a while to do it properly, but the next couple of OSes will be very exciting because this is where the testing and the implementation will be done.

"After a short period of wrangling things from utopic-proposed to vivid-proposed and a few small merges and uploads to prime the archive, vivid is now open for development. In theory, this shouldn't change much, but the Arch-indep build architecture has been changed from i386 to amd64, which more closely matches what (most) developers test on, and also what Debian will be doing when they implement their source upload strategy."

"Autosyncs will be running shortly, so give a little patience to the buildd network as they work through the queue, and no need to rush to sync your favourite package, it'll get there. Lots of reports still point to utopic, and ISO builds aren't on yet, but we'll sort both of those out in the coming days," Canonical's Adam Conrad said.

In the meantime, you can get the recently released Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) and give it a try. It's faster than Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and more advanced, so there is no reason to wait until 15.04 is ready. We have a review of this latest version and it's actually an interesting release. You can download Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) from Softpedia. Also, stay tuned to find out when the first daily builds for 15.04 are made available.
