A new Ubuntu Online Summit is now in the planning stages, and it will start in less than week, giving users and developers an insight regarding the upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 version.

Immediately after the release of a new Ubuntu version the work starts for the another cycle, and the developers put in place the blueprints for the next iteration. All of the new features get decided early on and the Ubuntu Online Summit is a great way for various teams and devs from the project to come together and discuss what can be done and what must be done.

These summits used to be organized in various places and developers would meet face to face, but the Ubuntu project is a vast one, and it's a logistical nightmare. This way, everyone gets to participate, and they don't have to leave the comfort of their home. The Ubuntu Online Summit has been organized several times, and it's been a success every single time.

Ubuntu Online Summit is an excellent opportunity for users

Even if the summit is mostly organized by developers and for developers, regular users can learn a great deal about the project and they can usually also ask questions regarding various aspects of the distribution.

"The 15.04 release frenzy over, but the next big event in the Ubuntu calendar is just around the corner. In about a week, from the 5th to 7th of May, the next edition of the Ubuntu Online Summit is taking off. Three days of sessions for developers, designers, advocates, users and all members of our diverse community. Along the developer-oriented discussions, you’ll find presentations, workshops, lightning talks and much more. It’s a great opportunity for existing and new members to get together and contribute to the talks, watch a workshop to learn something new, or ask your questions to many of the rockstars who make Ubuntu," wrote Canonical's David Planella.

As expected, some of the topics will include convergence, the desktop flavor of Ubuntu, Snappy, and, of course, the phone. All in all, it looks like the next Ubuntu Online Summit will be very interesting.
