Moving from one channel to another will be much simpler

Canonical has been working on a way to ensure that Ubuntu Touch users have an easy time moving from one branch to another, and they have implemented a solution for this problem.

One of the issues that confronted Ubuntu Touch users was the lack of an option to move from one branch (channel) of the OS to another. For example, if you were running a development version of the OS and you wanted to move to the stable channel, you would need to reinstall the system. As you can imagine, reinstalling the phone can be frustrating.

Even if it's quite easy to install Ubuntu Touch, having to get everything in place after you've set up the phone just the way you like is counterproductive. A solution had to be found, and it looks like they managed to fix this issue.

Ubuntu Touch is still under heavy development

The Ubuntu for phones OS is stable, but it still needs a lot of work. It has been adopted by Bq Aquaris e4.5 and Meizu MX4, but some features are still needed, and the complete experience has to be refined.

"Also, as announced by Robert, the dual-landing functionality is now live. There was a small bug in migration tracking, but everything is working perfectly after a hotfix being deployed. The documentation has been updated as well," said Canonical's Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak in a mailing list email.

It might not seem like a big thing, but it's actually quite important in the long run. It is likely that we'll soon get more updates on dual-landing functionality, but until then you keep hitting that update button.

Canonical is preparing a new OTA update the coming weeks, and it's going to be a major one. The system base will switch to Ubuntu 15.04, and some Unity 8 improvements are also expected to land.
