The Ubuntu Touch platform already received a few major updates in the past few months, but the developers are preparing so much more with the next releases. This information was revealed during the latest Ubuntu insider hangout.

Canonical revealed interesting information to some Ubuntu insiders during a hangout that took place yesterday, and the developers talked a lot about what changes would be implemented. There is a lot of stuff coming, much more than users might expect.

It's rather unusual to see all the steps that will be taken by developers ahead of time, but they do seem to have a serious plan worked out, which they are following to the letter. This allows them to name all the stuff that they are going to implement and fix well ahead of time, besides the stuff that hasn't been foreseen.

Ubuntu Touch will be refined in the coming months

Users have noted that Ubuntu Touch could use some improvements in various areas, but the developers are already working on those. In fact, many of the complaints from the community are being remedied with future patches.

Many more details about the new OTAs have been revealed in a blog entry by Nekhelesh Ramananthan, one of the participants at the latest Ubuntu insider hangout. According to the list of changes, users will be able to reorder categories; video and audio playback will no longer stop when switching scopes; better layouts for News and Today scopes, group chat support and numerous browser improvements have been implemented; the calendar and Dekko (email) apps are getting converged and ready for the desktop; and Wi-Fi will be usable as a hotspot.

These are just a few of the changes, but please keep in mind that they will be spread out and won't land all at once, in one single swoop.
