The new release adds support for exFAT file system cards

Canon has rolled out a new firmware package developed for its XF300 and XF305 camcorders, namely version 1.0.7.0, which adds support for exFAT file system on CF cards over 128 GB.

This new compatibility addition lowers the waiting time that is required for accessing the memory card before starting to record any footage.

If you intend to make use of this change, then save and unzip the proper downloadable archive for your device, initialize a compatible SD card using the camcorder, and copy the newly extracted “VGA7.FIM” file onto the formatted memory card.

Now make sure the XF device has a fully charged battery, insert the card into the camcorder while it’s powered off, turn the unit on, and go to Menu > Other Functions > Firmware, and wait for the new software to be recognized.

When the “Update the Firmware?” message appears, simply select “Ok” and allow the device to perform the upgrade (should take about 4 minutes to complete).

Bear in mind that during the installation you mustn’t remove the battery or the SD card, play with the device’s buttons, or interrupt the process in any way, as this will cause serious device malfunctions.

Upon completion, turn off the camcorder, remove the memory card, and power the device back on in order to check the currently installed firmware version and to ensure that the upgrade has been successful.

Therefore, in order to make use of this release, all you need to do is download Canon XF305 Camcorder Firmware 1.0.7.0 or download Canon XF300 Camcorder Firmware 1.0.7.0 and apply the new firmware.
