A new report claims Canon has been seeking feedback from experts of the industry

Canon has been expected to introduce a new high-end camera for some time and those of you who have been wondering when the rumors might become a reality will be happy to know that, according to a fresh report, things are advancing in the right direction.

Currently, we can’t exactly put our finger on which camera Canon is going to be refreshing with this new model. For all we know, it could replace the EOS 1D X, but a big-megapixel replacement for the 5D Mark III shouldn't be taken out of the equation either.

Now a new report brought to us by Northlight claims this mystery camera has been submitted to testing by Canon. The new device has a fullframe sensor and is playing nice in the body of the 1D X.

According to the information, Canon visited a few lucky studios in the New York Area and a few images were shot using the device.

What Canon is apparently striving to do is get opinions from the industry’s leaders, before the official release, so it's providing them with test prototypes.

The photos snapped in the trial were then processed and reviewed on the particular laptop. Sadly, none of the pictures could be copied or saved, so there’s no actual proof that this is what happened.

Although we’re pretty sure Canon will continue the testing phase and some pics will eventually leak out online. But for the time being Canon is being very mysterious about the upcoming product. And we can’t say our interest hasn’t been picked.

The report is apparently based on the claims of someone who actually got to test the purported Canon 1D X replacement, and he claims the files are similar in size to the ones captured using the Canon 5D Mark III.

For those who need a little memory refresh, the Canon 5D Mark III comes equipped with a 22.1-megapixel fullframe sensor, so the so-called Canon 1D X Mark II / 1D Xs will most likely have a similar sensor.

Note that the main difference between the 5D Mark III and the 1D X successor is the latter’s apparent capability of displaying “much better color accuracy and detail.”

As for the current Canon flagship camera, the EOS 1D X, the device was unveiled back in 2011, bundling an 18.1MP fullframe sensor, 61 autofocus points, 3.2-inch LCD and maximum ISO of 204,8000 and dual DIGIC 5+ processors.

Anyway, Canon will hopefully introduce the device in late 2014 or early 2015, so we still have some time to wait before the company does so.
