Ahead of Photokina, Canon has already begun teasing a new major product

Like most major photo gear brands out there, Canon is constantly working on new products to add to its expanding lineup. So it’s no wonder we’re going to see a lot of novelties coming out of the device maker at Photokina 2014 this September.

In anticipation of the event, Canon is already taking the opportunity to tease fans. Canon India has just posted an image on their Facebook account, which says, “Get your camera ready something BIG is coming.”

In the background, one can see a Canon camera from the EOS-1 family (namely the original EOS-1 SLR camera), so this might be an indication that the EOS 7D Mark II DSLR, which has been in the rumor mill many times, will see the light of day soon enough.

It sure sounds like the photo gear maker has a big announcement in store for us, especially since photographers are invited to get their cameras ready. On the other hand, it might be that the announcement only applies to the Indian territory, but we surely hope this is not the case.

Of course, the teaser is pretty shady, so we are left wondering and making hypotheses in our heads, which is basically the whole point of the campaign. In anticipation of major events like Photokina 2014, all major photo brands employ the same tactic, including Sony and Nikon.

Since the Canon 7D has been officially discontinued by Amazon, it makes sense to assume Canon is ready to push out the much awaited successor, the 7D Mark II.

If you’re late to the party, we need to remind you that, according to the rumor mill, the new DSLR will boast a design inspired by the original EOS-1 SLR camera.

The camera has supposedly already been spotted in the wild, being tested by the hands of a photographer covering the 2014 World Cup event in Brazil.

Anyway, if we’re to focus on the “BIG” part of the announcement, then we can hypothesize that Canon is actually looking to introduce a telephoto zoom lens like the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens, which should have arrived on the market some time ago, but has failed to make an appearance to this very day.

However, the rumor mill seems to suggest that this September we’re going to be witnesses to the unveiling of both these products, and with Photokina coming, it makes a lot of sense that this is exactly what’s going to happen.
