It's not the first time that Canon chooses one particular day for launching a huge number of products, and the company seems to have done it again. Thus, beside the EOS 50D DSLR, Canon has also introduced four new PowerShot compact digital cameras, namely the PowerShot A1000 IS, A2000 IS and SX110 IS, as well as the first model from a brand new line of cameras targeting kids in particular, the E1.

Just like in all mass-launches, there are also some more "mundane" products included in the bunch, and that's pretty much the case with these new PowerShot digicams. Thus, the Canon PowerShot A1000 IS features a 10-megapixel resolution, 4x Optical Zoom lens and DIGIC III Image Processor, while the A2000 IS sports some slightly improved specs in the form of a 6x zoom lens and a 3-inch LCD screen.

Finally, the PowerShot SX110 IS marks a slight decrease in the sensor capabilities (just 9-megapixel resolution), the same DIGIC III Image Processor and 3-inch LCD screen, but a better lens (10x Optical Zoom).

Despite their differences, the three new PowerShots share a lot of common features, including here the Face Detection technology, Motion Detection technology and Red-eye correction. Moreover, in order to ensure the quality of the shots, each of the three devices includes an optical image stabilization system.

Things are a bit different in the case of the E1. This particular model is designed especially for kids and teens (for this reason, it's available in several flashy colors), which means that it packs several features they might really find to be quite useful, as for example start-up sounds, customizable screens and up to 17 shooting modes, including Easy Mode and Scene Mode. Other important features worth mentioning about the E1 are the same Face Detection technology, the 10-megapixel sensor, the 4X optical zoom lens and the 2.5-inch LCD.

The new Canon PowerShot A1000 IS and A2000 IS should be available in stores at some point in September and will sell for $200 and $250, respectively. The SX110 IS model is slated for a late-August release and will sell for $300, while the E1 model is also scheduled to arrive in September and will sell for a teen pocket-friendly $199.
