Although the back-to-school period is still pretty far away, the most important manufacturers of various computer peripherals have already begun to prep their offers for the respective shopping season. And one of the latest announcements of this type comes from Canon, which has just unveiled no less than 5 peripherals, namely two Photo All-in-One Printers (the Pixma MP480 and the PIXMA MP190 models), as well as three new scanners, namely the CanoScan 5600F, CanoScan LiDE200 and LiDE100 Color Image Scanners.

First of all, let's see what the new AIOs are all about. The first model, the PIXMA MP480, has been equipped with a 1.8-inch TFT color LCD screen and easily navigated control panel, as well as Auto Photo Fix and Auto Scan Mode functions. Moreover, the MP480 can achieve text print speeds of up to 20 pages-per-minute (ppm) in black and up to 16 ppm in color, while 4 x 6 inch borderless lab-quality prints are ready in approximately 45-seconds. Furthermore, the MP480 Photo All-In-One will also feature an optional Bluetooth wireless connection for sending images to the printer.

Next in Canon's line of announcements is the PIXMA MP190 model, which, according to the company, is designed especially for those users on a very tight budget. The PIXMA MP190 Photo All-In-One features a maximum of 4800 x 1200 dpi color resolution, and a minimum two-picoliter droplet size, while the text printing speeds are up to 19 ppm for black and up to 15 ppm for color. Additional features include the Advanced Z-Lid expansion top which allows users to place bulkier books or small 3-D objects for scanning on the platen glass and holds them down for a more clear copy or scan.

As mentioned earlier, Canon has also launched three new scanners. The first model, the CanoScan 5600F Color Image Scanner, can scan up to six frames of a 35mm filmstrip or four 35mm slides at a maximum optical resolution of 4800 x 9600 dots-per-inch (dpi), as well as letter-sized color documents at a resolution of 300 dpi in approximately 11 seconds. Moreover, the device also uses Quick and Automatic Retouching and Enhancement (QARE) Level 3 technology, which aids in automatic dust, scratch, fading and graininess reduction.

The last two new models from Canon are the CanoScan LiDE200 and LiDE100 Color Image Scanners, which use a Contact Image Sensor (CIS) in order to achieve a maximum optical resolution of 4800 x 4800 dpi (the LiDE200) or 2400 x 4800 dpi (LIDE100). These two models also incorporate QARE Level 3 technology, and offer some pretty OK speeds, namely up to 14 seconds for a letter-sized color document (LIDE 200 model).

Now, for the pricing and availability-related information. All the new models will be immediately available in all Canon stores, with the PIXMA MP480 Photo All-In-One retailing for around $99.99 and the PIXMA MP480 for $69.99. The scanners aren't particularly expensive, either, since the estimated selling price of the CanoScan LiDE200 Color Image Scanner is $89.99 and $59.99 for the CanoScan LiDE100 Color Image Scanner, while the CanoScan 5600F can be purchased for around 150 US dollars.
