Good news for the lovers of the popular Powershot SX50 HS IS camera. Word on the street has it that Canon is getting ready to launch a successor of the camera, dubbed the Canon Powershot SX60 HS IS.

According to relevant sources familiar with the matter reported by CanonWatch, the new product should be launched somewhere before summer 2014, possibly in the next two months, but so far we don’t have an exact date to tell you.

Brushing this aside for a second, we do have a bunch of new information about the specification of the new Canon. Apparently, the Powershot SX60 HS will bundle a 15MP sensor and will be faster on the wide end.

For those who remember, the SX50 had a maximum aperture of f/3.4, but its rumored successor is said to come with an f/2.8. As mentioned above, the new Canon is expected to be wider, so compared to the current 24-1200, it will have 20-1200 in 35 mm.

There could be a 60x zoom onboard and such a feat will certainly do justice to the name and be in accordance with things, as the SX50 has a 50x zoom, so the speculation seems to make sense.

Last but not least, we should be seeing improvements in the auto-focus department. The SX50 is handling itself pretty well, at the moment, so it would be interesting to see what the SX60 brings about.
