CES 2014 is at its last day and all the important camera and optics manufacturers have already revealed some of the products that will hit shelves this year.

In comparison with its rivals, Canon didn't make too many announcements at this year's first important international electronics show. The company only unveiled three new superzoom compact camera models (N100, SX600 HS and ELPH 340 HS) that come with enhanced connectivity features as well as powerful optical zoom lenses.

According to CanonRumors, it will be revealing a replacement for its current 50x optical zoom PowerShot SX50 digital camera in spring. Moreover, the same source states that the new model will be prepared for an early summer release.

Recently, Canon filed a patent for a new 100x optical zoom lens to fit future bridge cameras. Maybe the SX50 successor will come with such a lens, which will make it the world's first compact camera to cover such a long focal range.
