Canon has just revised its product lineup to include a pair of new PowerShot high-end point-and-shoot cameras, the first one coming as the successor of the highly-regarded S95, while the latter is a super-zoom with a 35x lens.

Both the PowerShot S100 and SX40 HS, as the cameras are named, are built around Canon's new DIGIC 5 image processor, which brings to the table improved low-light performance and high-burst shooting as well as 1080p video recording.

This new Canon image sensor is paired together with a 12.1MP CMOS sensor, which should add significantly more light into the pictures captured, while the S100 also gets a fast f/2.0 lens and a GPS receiver for geo-tagging your pictures.

As far as the rest of the features of the S100 are concerned, the camera also received a large 3.0-inch wide LCD screen, up to ISO 6400 support, a control ring for quick manual adjustment of key functions such as ISO, zoom and focus, RAW + JPEG picture support, and an optional HF-DC2 High-Power flash.

Its much bulkier brother drops the screen size from 3 to 2.7-inches and lowers the maximum ISO to 3200, but instead comes with a vari-angle LCD, a zoom framing assist button, and improved Smart AUTO settings.

"Photo enthusiasts are always on the search for that next great camera to help them achieve the best results," said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon U.S.A.

"The inclusion of the new DIGIC 5 image processor and Full HD recording capabilities on both new models will provide users with the tools needed to capture brilliant images and videos as they continue their photographic journey," concluded the company's rep.

The PowerShot SX40 HS Digital will be the first of the two cameras to reach retail as is expected to arrive later this month, while the PowerShot S100 will make its debut in early November. Both models carry a recommended price tag of $429.99.
