A little less than a week ago, Canon announced that at the beginning of November will launch a new camera in the PowerShot range, dubbed the S100. Now, it looks like the point-and-shoot will arrive in the market a full month before this date as Amazon estimates it will start shipping as soon as October 3.

The upcoming PowerShot S100 is the successor of the highly acclaimed S95 and it improves on the functionality brought by its predecessor with the inclusion of quite a few new features.

One of the most important of these is the new DIGIC 5 image processor used, which the company states it will improve the low-light performance of the camera, while also providing faster high-burst shooting.

In addition, the DIGIC 5 also enables 1080p Full HD video recording, a feature that has become increasingly common in high-end point-and-shoot snappers.

But Canon hasn't stopped here and decided to pair the much improved image processor with a 12.1MP CMOS sensor as well as with a fast f/2.0 lens, both of these changes being designed in order to bring significantly more light into the images captured.

A built-in GPS was also added to the camera for geo-tagging pictures, and this is paired with a 3.0-inch wide LCD screen as well as with a control ring placed around the lens for quick manual adjustment of key functions such as ISO, zoom and focus.

Speaking of ISO, the maximum level supported by the S100 is ISO 6400, but users also have the option of pairing the camera with the HF-DC2 High-Power flash if they don't want to bring that much noise into the pictures taken. Another interesting feature is the support for RAW image capture.

The Canon PowerShot S100 has a recommended price tag of $429.99 (roughly 315 Euros) and can be pre-ordered from Amazon using this link. (via engadget)
