Canon has recently released its latest EOS M series mirrorless camera on the Asian market, and the most recent statements from the company's officials indicate that Canon is not planning to release the new EOS M2 on the US and European markets anytime soon.

This decision is based on the current worldwide sales figures for the mirrorless segment that point to Asia as the best market for interchangeable-lens cameras, with Japan holding around 16% of the worldwide mirrorless camera sales.

Japanese website Egami discovered a new patent for a Canon 16-120mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens that will most probably be designed to fit EF-M mount cameras, respectively the new EOS M2.

Along with this lens, the patent also has an 18-55 IS STM and an 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens featuring the same aperture values as the aforementioned optic.

Currently, the EOS M mount lenses available from the Nippon manufacturer are: 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, and 22mm f/2 STM. Whether these new lenses will become a reality or not, it remains to be seen in the following months.
