Today, Canon announced a new high-performance Digital SLR camera, namely the EOS 70D, which is set to provide photo enthusiasts with a variety of advanced features.

The new device arrives with an innovative new Dual Pixel CMOS AF system that should offer instant and precise focusing for both video and photo shooting, as well as with great image quality and performance capabilities courtesy of its 20.2 megapixel APS-C Canon CMOS sensor.

The EOS 70D also sports Canon's superb DIGIC 5+ Image Processor, and can offer video shooting capabilities similar to those of camcorders, courtesy of the aforementioned Dual Pixel CMOS AF, a phase-detection autofocus (AF) technology.

“Dual Pixel CMOS AF employs a revolutionary CMOS sensor on which all of the effective pixels are able to perform both still imaging and phase-detection AF simultaneously to achieve dramatically improved AF performance over other EOS cameras during Live View shooting and when shooting video,” Canon explains.

The technology is also capable of focusing in much shorter periods of time, and results in improved tracking performance and smoother autofocusing when recording videos.

Furthermore, the use of Live View shooting is similar to the use of camera's viewfinder, which results in concentrated attention on the subject, Canon explains.

The new Dual Pixel CMOS AF also comes with support for 1031 models of EF lenses, thus expanding the options that photographers have in various situations.

The camera also comes with built-in wireless transmitter, enabling users to connect it to their Android or iOS devices through the free EOS Remote apps available for download from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.

This allows not only for the transferring of photos to smartphones and tablets, but also enables users to control aperture, shutter speed, and ISO from their mobile devices.

EOS 70D can also connect directly to Canon's iMAGE GATEWAY, so that photos can be easily shared through social networking sites.

Furthermore, the new camera was designed with the ability to connect wirelessly to computers, DLNA devices, and with Wi-Fi Certified Canon cameras, as well as with wireless PictBridge compatible printers, including the PIXMA MG6320 Wireless Photo All-In-One printer model.

“The new EOS 70D Digital SLR camera is a game-changing DSLR model that incorporates advanced features for high-quality still and video capture and intuitive operation that allows photographers to evolve their creative vision from shooting still images to shooting moving images,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A.

“This camera's outstanding image quality combined with built-in wireless technology and popular creative functions and filters makes it easy to turn photos into works of art and share them immediately.”

Canon’s new EOS 70D Digital SLR Camera will arrive on shelves in September this year, featuring an estimated price tag of $1,199 (€922). It will be priced at $1,349 (€1,037) when bundled with an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, and at $1,549 (€1,191) if bundled with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.
