The product was hinted at by one of the company’s officials

It hasn’t been long since Canon introduced a whole host of new products including the hotly anticipated 7D Mark II DSLR.

But it appears Canon is not taking a break after this fresh wave of new products. Not by a long shot. I have already told you the company has plans to unleash a PRO-level DSLR sometimes in 2015, but that’s not the only thing being built in Canon’s development labs.

Now, in an interview with DC.Watch, the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive of Image Communication Products Operation, Masaya Maeda said Canon is considering bringing out a new mount system, as the market is headed towards “miniaturization.”

Most likely miniaturization does not refer to a medium format camera, because such products tend to be quite large.

The answer might be found in mirrorless cameras with full frame image sensors. The company official does not specifically mention such a system, but the mirrorless format does make sense.

On the other hand, miniaturization could also refer to an image sensor, which indicates the possibility that the company might take up APS-C-sized sensors.

Anyway, these are just speculations at this point and nothing more, so don’t take them as the real deal. I’ll update you once we get ahold of new information.
