Today, Canon has made available a new firmware package targeted at its VIXIA mini and LEGRIA mini camcorders, namely version 1.0.1.0, which includes several changes that should improve the devices' overall usability.

Specifically speaking, the new release adds support for the remote viewing function, shortens the time between turning on the device and being able to start recording, and includes a photo playback feature when in SP-V1 mode.

In addition to that, the position of the “Macro” option has been changed above the “Auto” one for an improved usability, and the playback index screen can now be accessed by holding the playback button.

Users will not be able to enter playback mode while the camcorder is recording. Also, version 1.0.1.0 modifies the playback button’s behaviour as well; in order to switch to playback mode, the button must be pressed for half a second (or even more).

As for upgrading to this release, first make sure to save your configurations, as this process will reset all settings, and bear in mind that, once the unit’s firmware has been applied, it cannot be downgraded to an older version.

When it comes to the update procedure, it would be best to refer to the installation manual available in several languages and located within the downloadable archive.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your camcorder, carefully read the update guide, and install the new firmware on your device.
