The Pellicle mirror concept has been researched by every important camera manufacturer

Canon is not at its first attempt with the semi-transparent fixed mirror concept and the Pellix, F1 High Speed, EOS RT and EOS 1N RS cameras prove just that. It seems that the Japanese corporation has filed a new patent for an improved version of its Pellicle mirror.

Some of us are already acquainted with the disadvantages of the classic SLR mirror: blackouts during exposure, limited maximum shooting speed due to the movement of the reflex mirror and even the noise and vibration caused each time you press the shutter button.

The Pellicle mirror is a partially reflective, semi-transparent fixed mirror that splits the light beam in two separate beams of reduced intensity.

This translates into the possibility to realize through-the-lens exposures, eliminating mirror blackouts, reduced camera shake and, most importantly, a fast shooting speed due to the fixed nature of this mirror.

The technology is also researched by the competition, and all we have to do now is wait and see how it will be implemented in future SLR cameras.
