Canon “L” labeled lenses are worldwide known for their outstanding optical quality thanks to the incorporated fluorite elements and aspherical surfaces.

Over the years a few patents have emerged, which stated that Canon is working on a second version of the popular EF 35mm f/1.4L lens, but no one has actually seen or heard about this lens to reach mass production.

According to CanonRumors, an anonymous source claims that a few select photographers have received a prototype of the new Canon EF 35mm f/1.4l II lens for testing purposes.

According to this source, the new lens weighs a bit less than the current version and comes with a slightly wider body. In addition to that, the tested version had a 77mm filter thread as well as a new type of coating for some of its elements.

Expect to hear more about this lens soon, as Canon is expected to reveal it sometime in the first half of 2014.
