This past February 21, Canon USA, Inc. announced that the Green Building Council in the United States had honored its Canon Americas Headquarters by awarding it a LEED Gold certification.

In a press release on the matter at hand, the company goes on to detail that, for the time being, said building is the largest commercial property on Long Island to hold such an award.

“Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced today that Canon Americas Headquarters has been awarded LEED Gold certification, a recognition for the design, construction, operations and maintenance of high-performance green buildings,” the company writes.

“Located in Melville, NY, the facility stands as a model for environmental stewardship and innovation, and serves all North and South American countries. The Canon Americas Headquarters is the largest commercial property on Long Island to achieve this level of LEED,” it adds.

Canon USA, Inc. goes on to detail that its building on Long Island was awarded a LEED Gold certification due to the fact that it uses both energy and other resources in a sustainable manner.

The fact that it does not create loads of pollution, and also aims to create healthier environments for its occupants and the community it is part of what helped it receive said award.

The company explains that, presently, daylight is harvested in 75% of the regularly occupied spaces in the Canon American Headquarters.

What's more, its garages include 90 parking spaces especially designed for low-emitting and fuel-efficient cars, and also accommodate charging stations that can serve up to 12 plug-in electric vehicles.

Employees who wish to bike to work can easily do so, and then store their two-wheeler in one of the 136 bicycle storage spaces spread across the facility.

Thanks to water efficient plumbing fixtures, the facility uses some 35% less water than it would otherwise do, Canon USA, Inc. further details.

Commenting on the building's being awarded a LEED Gold certification, Joe Adachi, the current President and CEO of Canon USA, states as follows:

“We are honored to be awarded LEED Gold certification and be recognized for our environmental conservation efforts at the Canon Americas Headquarters.”

“Canon is committed to energy-efficient practices to help reduce the environmental impact of our operations and products we distribute. Our LEED Gold certification will serve as a symbol of Canon's commitment to the environment and dedication to sustainable practices for years to come,” he added.
