Recently, Nippon camera and optics manufacturer, Canon announced that the company had ranked first among Japanese companies for the number of U.S. Patents awarded last year. This doesn't really come as a surprise since almost every week we hear about new patents filed by the renowned manufacturer.

Japanese website Egami, has spotted a new Canon patent showing a 11-24mm wide-angle lens with a constant f/4 maximum aperture designed for full frame digital SLR cameras.

In addition to that, Canon is also rumored to introduce a new EF 14-24mm f/2.8L USM wide-angle lens that will try to compete with Nikon's similar model. The lens will come with a hefty price, since the Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF lens is now available for $1,996.95 / €1,460.

Other recent patents filed by Canon involve new IS versions for the 85mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2, and 135mm f/2.8 lenses as well as a few new EF-M mount lenses for the company's mirrorless camera line.
