9600 x 2400 dpi, 31 ppm...and the list goes on

Canon's been on a roll lately, as the company has decided to go for an all-out launch frenzy, providing a huge number of products, mostly photo-dedicated. Thus, after releasing a huge number of digital photo cameras (check out the related articles section for the most important announcements in this particular field), the company has decided that it was quite a good idea to provide photographers with the means of transposing their digital images onto paper, and thus launched quite an impressive line-up of photo all-in-ones, but also two dedicated advanced photo printers, namely the PIXMA iP4500 and PIXMA iP3500 models.

The first model in the new series is the PIXMA iP4500 Photo Printer, which provides a maximum resolution of 9600 x 2400 color dpi and features no less than five Smart LED equipped individual ink tanks in the very fast Canon FINE print head. All these features together allow the printer to deliver print speeds of approximately 31 pages per minute (ppm) for black, 24 ppm for color and 21 seconds for a 4 x 6 inch (10 x 15 cm) photo lab quality borderless printouts. Moreover, the built-in automatic duplexing allows any user to print double-sided documents or photos without having to manually turn the paper.

The second model is targeting those customers who are not willing to spend too much money on such a device, as the PIXMA iP3500 Photo Printer offers relatively good printing features at a value price. The printer provides a maximum of 4800 x 1200 color dpi resolution and Smart LED equipped individual ink tanks in a Canon-exclusive FINE print head. Printing speeds are a bit lower than in the case of the iP4500, but are quite OK, since the printer can go as high as 25 ppm in black and 17 ppm in color with approximately 47-second 4 x 6-inches (10 x 15 centimeters) photo lab quality, borderless photo printing.

"These new printers deliver high-quality photo printing with exceptional text printing. Canon's award-winning photo printer line now provides users with several choices over multiple performance and price ranges to satisfy a large variety of needs," said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A. "Together with our strong line of photo and business All-in-One printers, Canon offers the printing consumer more choices than ever."

The two dedicated photo printers from Canon are not even that expensive, and this will surely represent a plus for all the photography aficionados out there. Thus, the PIXMA iP4500 model has an MSRP of around $129.99, while the PIXMA iP3500 is even cheaper, being priced at around $99. The only problem customers will have to face now is that of making up their own mind, as Canon's new line-up offers so many choices that it's kinda difficult to decide what the best solution for one's needs really is.
