A northern hawk owl risked kicking the bucket after falling into a Finnish lake and failing to get out on its own. Luckily, a canoeist chanced to see it and rescued it.

Daily Mail tells us that, when the canoeist first stopped the owl, the latter was barely keeping afloat in the freezing waters of Lake Tuusula.

The adventurer pulled the bird out of the water, and placed it on the canoe's deck to allow it to rest for a while. Judging by its look in the picture above, not only did the owl not mind being handled, but it was also quite grateful to the canoeist.

Some time later, the adventurer took the bird to shore. It only took some time to dry off its feathers, and then flew away.

In case anyone was wondering, the bird was a northern hawk owl. Unlike others of its kind, it is active during the day. It mostly feeds on small rodents, but does not mind gulping down other birds every once in a while.
