A man from Atlanta has completed a coast-to-coast drive in just 28 hours and 50 minutes, breaking the current world record.

Ed Bolian drove without stopping across 2,813 miles (4,530 km) of roadway, ABC News reported. Bolian is a Lamborghini dealer and he has been planning the trip since 2009.

He completed a trip from New York to LA in 11 hours under the Google Maps estimated time. For fewer stops, he modified the tank to take about 400 pounds (180 kg) of fuel.

He chose to drive a Mercedes CL 55, the suspensions of which would carry the modification.

The former record was set in 2006, with a 31-hour and 4-minute drive. However, Bolian was inspired by the first person claiming the world record, Edwin “Cannonball” Baker in 1933.

The tour has been known as the Cannonball Run since being coined by racer and journalist Brock Yates. He created the “Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash.”
