Candy Crush Saga developer King has apparently been able to trademark the world "candy" in the United States and is now sending threatening legal emails to developers of games that have Candy in their name.

Candy Crush Saga is one of the most popular social games out there, managing to reach tens of millions of players on Facebook and various mobile platforms.

Its developer, King, has branched out with many other projects, but it's still quite keen on making sure Candy Crush remains successful.

Gamezebo has revealed that King now holds a trademark over the word "candy" and is already sending out emails to game developers who used it in their title.

King's ultimatum asks them to either change the title to remove the word candy or face legal action in court.

As of yet, the large social developer hasn't commented on its new actions.
