Director Oliver Stone has sent fans and the media into a frenzy of speculation after saying of his “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” star that he was in a “precarious” health.

In August this year, Douglas announced he’d been diagnosed with throat cancer; in September, he did his first interview to talk about the disease and the prognosis.

Not only then but on several other occasions as well, the actor showed himself very optimistic about the odds, saying doctors had promised him an 80% chance of beating cancer.

As he said on Letterman, he hoped to use his money and his connections to up those odds.

Still, that’s not Oliver Stone knows: speaking with the media just recently, the director let it slip that Douglas was in poor condition, E! Online informs.

“In Berlin to promote Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the Oscar-owning director told a press gaggle today that Michael Douglas had to back out of the planned European media blitz due to the ‘precarious’ state of his health,” E! writes.

“Stone added that his leading man is still ‘suffering’ and opted to remain in the States to recover from his final round of cancer treatment,” the e-zine goes on to say.

Granted, Michael himself said that the chemo therapy would most certainly interfere with the promo tour for his latest film, the Oliver Stone-directed “Wall Street 2,” but that’s not stopping many from asking whether his condition hasn’t really worsened.

“While the ailing actor attended the New York premiere of the Wall Street sequel with Stone three weeks ago, Douglas looked physically exhausted and didn’t say a word to reporters,” E! notes.

Last week, Douglas’ rep tried to tell the media and fans that things were going in the right direction but, as per the same media outlet, rather failed at it.

“He’s doing really well. I’m not quite sure what all of it means, but it sounds good to me,” Michael’s publicist Allen Burry reportedly told the media.
