Late last week, Michael C. Hall, best known for his part as bloodspatter analyst and serial killer Dexter Morgan on Showtime’s “Dexter,” revealed that he had been diagnosed and had already started treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. At the same time, the actor insisted he would attend last night’s Golden Globes Awards – which he did, and won an award for Best Actor in a TV Drama, as People can confirm.

When Hall made the announcement regarding his cancer, he also made it a point of saying that the treatment was going well and that doctors had told him the disease was in remission already. He also stressed that he would put in an appearance at the prestigious Golden Globes awards ceremony, as well as at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he’s also nominated.

Last night, Hall picked up his award for Best Actor in a TV Drama, while co-star John Lithgow won Best Supporting Actor in a TV Mini Series for his part as Trinity in “Dexter.” After receiving his award, Hall talked to the media to offer reassurances that he was doing fine and to thank his fans for the ongoing support they’d been showing him. Also then, the actor joked that, because of his condition, he could now afford to accessorize properly, in reference to the black designer Japanese cap he had on.

“It’s nice to see colleagues and for me to show [people] I am doing fine. I had every intention of keeping it quiet, but because award shows were imminent, I had to make a statement,” the actor said. The decision to go public with his condition was easier to make because of the favorable prognosis, he also said, adding that it had helped him stay positive about the future. “I like to think I have a good head on my shoulders. I have never been less susceptible to [having a big head] given the more down in the trenches stuff I have been considering,” Hall added.

After receiving his award, Lithgow too could not stop praising the 38-year-old, usually very private actor, saying he was a “tremendous,” “stupendous actor” who truly deserved to win the award for his work on “Dexter.”
