Canada has decided to invest an additional $155 million (€119 million) in cyber security as part of the ongoing implementation of Canada’s Cyber Security Strategy. The government already allocated $90 million (€70 million) spread over five years and $18 million (€14 million) ongoing, back in 2010 when the strategy was launched.

Minister of Public Safety Vic Toews hopes that the Cyber Security Strategy and the new investments will help the country achieve a resilient, stable and secure infrastructure.

During an event dedicated to Cyber Security Awareness Month, the minister highlighted the fact that Canadian citizens and businesses must be able to trust the government with their private information.

“Today’s announcement further secures government systems that deliver services to all Canadians and complements additional efforts under Canada’s Cyber Security Strategy to protect Canadians from cyber threats,” Minister Toews said.

“Our Government is continuously working to enhance cyber security in Canada by identifying cyber threats and vulnerabilities, and by preparing for and responding to all kinds of cyber incidents to better protect Canada and Canadians.”
