In February, Canadian authorities arrested 29-year-old Kevin Courtois for launching distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks against the systems of his former employer Concepta, Inc., and Internet provider Xittel.

Now, according to Canadian publication La Presse, Courtois has been charged with hacking into the systems of four companies – namely Concepta, Insurance Group Labonte Provencher, the Waste Management Authority of Mauricie, and JM Ferron.

A total of 16 new hacking-related charges have been brought against the suspect.

JM Ferron representatives say Courtois had had access to their systems since was in charge of maintenance. He installed a remote access tool that allowed him to gain access to the company’s information.

However, JM Ferron’s owner has noted that they don’t keep any sensitive information on their systems. The company learned of the hack only after being contacted by police.

The Waste Management Authority has yet to determine the extent of the damage caused by Courtois.

The case has been postponed until December 4. Courtois has been released for the duration of the trial.
