Canada’s wireless carrier Rogers was the first operator in North America to have activated a BlackBerry Z10 device, the company announced.

Both Nadir Mohamed, president and CEO, Rogers Communications, and Thorsten Heins, president and CEO, BlackBerry, were present at the wireless carrier’s flagship store in Toronto this morning for the launch of BlackBerry Z10 in the country.

The smartphone was made available for pre-order at Rogers several weeks back, and the operator has already seen great demand for it.

In fact, the new BlackBerry Z10 smartphone has seen great traction among end users in other markets around the world as well, including the UK, where it landed on January 31.

BlackBerry Q10, the QWERTY-enabled BB10 smartphone from BlackBerry, is expected to arrive at Rogers as well, but users will have to wait for it until April-May, MobileSyrup notes.
