PETA asks that people take a stand against the slaughter

Environmental group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) informs that, despite recent protests and efforts to put an end to this inhumane practice, Canada's annual commercial seal slaughter is now officially ongoing.

The organization says that the hunt began this past Monday, and that, as part of it, tens of thousands of seals are to be shot or, even worse, bludgeoned to death just so that fishers can get their pelts and later sell them.

PETA says that the people who take part in this annual hunt do not hesitate to kill young seals. On the contrary, most of the animals that are murdered are not even three months old.

Due to the fact that Canada's annual hunt is a fairly gruesome sight, the European Union, the United States, Mexico, Taiwan and even Russia have banned trading activities involving seal fur.

However, for some reason, Canada is yet to implement measures intended to make these yearly slaughters a thing of the past.

“It’s time for the Canadian government to accept that the world has turned its back on seal products and devise a practical exit strategy: a government buyout of the sealing industry,” PETA writes on its website.

Those who want to help put an end to this practice can do so by singing this online PETA petition.
