Sony has probably created the smallest speakers to be included in a home-theater. They say that the units are about the size of a golf ball. So far, so good. Good for Sony for making technological progresses!
Now here's the tricky part. The press release says that each one of those golf balls, I mean speakers, puts out 50W. I don't know about you, but this to me sounds a little bit fishy. There are five satellites, rated at 50W each, which means a total of 250W. It's true that technology evolves at alarming rates, but come on people, 250W from five golf
balls?
The DAV-IS10 micro home theater system also includes a 200W two-way subwoofer. Just look at the images! The 200 subwoofer is quite a monster and one of those satellites is well like an oversized bugger. If you buy it, my advice is to keep the subwoofer really low, otherwise all you'll get will be bed-shaking lows with some scratchy mids and highs.
A home theater is more than speakers, so let's take a look at the other components. For close to $800, you also get a single disc DVD/CD player/receiver, which can upscale DVDs to 720p or 1080i output when connected via HDMI to a compatible high-definition television. The DVD/CD unit also features touch sensitive controls that illuminate and disappear on touch for navigating DVDs and CDs without using the included universal remote control.
"It is also equipped with Sony's Digital Media Port input. This makes the system compatible with various optional accessories, including a PC WiFi client for streaming digital music (TDM-NC1), a Bluetooth receiver that allows users to connect various Bluetooth-enabled devices to the system (TDM-BT1), and audio docking stations (TDM-NW1 and TDM-iP1).
Additional features include Sony's Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC), which simplifies multi-channel surround sound setup with the use of an included microphone for a balanced home theater experience," the press release also says.
