With rumors saying that Michael Muhney has been asked back to “The Young and the Restless,” from which he was fired in December, to reprise the Adam Newman part, also come reports saying that producers are looking for other actors to replace him.

Of the names thrown in the mix just recently, those of Cameron Mathison and Trevor St. John seem to pop up with more frequency, but you can already scratch that of Mathison off the list.

The other day, the former “All My Children” star issued a denial on Twitter, saying, “Just to clear up some rumors... There is absolutely NO indication that I am going to Y&R to play Adam Newman. Thanks for all the support tho.”

Muhney’s final episode on the hit CBS soap opera aired in January and, since then, fans have been in a constant turmoil wondering what might have caused his dismissal and, at the same time, asking for him to be brought back.

A ray of hope emerged at the end of last month, when one still-unconfirmed report claimed that he’d been spotted on the set, which would have meant he’d finally given in to pleas from producers and agreed to take his job back.

A couple of days ago, Muhney thanked fans on Twitter for the birthday wishes and the love and support, and said that he hoped he could give something in return for all that this year. So maybe the reason Mathison hasn’t been approached for the Adam Newman role is because Muhney has already agreed to it.

Fans can hope, can’t they?
